On Sunday night, a serious storm wreaked havoc in the Ladmith region, causing a flash flood in the veil and clipper of the vine reported by the IPSS Medical Emergency Services. Local SPCA and Caravan Park were among the submerged areas, many vehicles were allegedly swept away.
Ladysmith Saps K9 Search and Rescue Member, K9 Warrant Officer Mayor, and his Canine Partner, Storm’s brave efforts provided assistance by volunteer JP Stridam, marked with tireless dedication to Christmas Day. His efforts resulted in recovery of six bodies, a will for their commitment amid challenging circumstances.
Despite suspected 11 persons still disappeared, the search was temporarily stopped due to alone search and exhaustion of the rescue team. The expectation of additional resources for the continuity of the mission has become paramount.
The IPSS search and rescue responded rapidly by deploying a four-man team and two vehicle teams to cooperate with SAPS K9 search and rescue. Further reinforcement is on the standby, ready for assistance as required. Al-Imdad Foundation, a partner of IPSS, has also gathered to provide assistance to people affected by disastrous floods.
SPCA animals were successfully rescued during the night of the incident. The identity of the deceased is pending, and showing the ongoing commitment to resolve this tragic situation, the teams are expected to resume after resumption.
