Podcast: VW Tera’s name was changed to Tengo, Tavo, Tiv or Tione

The South African people get to choose a new name for Baby SUVs to be made in Kariga.

Volkswagen has given the public an option among four names for the new compact SUV, known as VW Tera in Brazil, it is planned to be built in Kariga.

After sticking to its naming conference with all its SUV names starting with letters, the names on the table are Tango, Tavo, Tiv and Tion. But what does these names mean?

On this week’s episode pit stop Podcast, we look closely on four names.

VW Tera should be renamed

According to the German carmaker, Tango is “defined as rich cultural significance in African language and describes qualities such as strength, flexibility and purpose”.

Moving on Tavo, VW has described it as “a linga-tattastha word means good or dear and eight” in Latin.

Tiva “Hebrew means nature means and is also associated with vitality, life and energy”, the car manufacturer says.
Finally, the name Tion “reflects the aesthetics appeal and develops a sense of movement and change”.

Kariga plant upgrade

The local version of VW Tera will be built on the A0 platform similar to the Polo and T-Cross. The VW assembly plant in Kariana recently increased body paint shops to gear up to the R4-billion upgrade of 100 robots, conveyor belts and new SUVs in the final assembly constituency. Production is expected to begin some time next year.

Its siblings in Brazilian-made VW Tera and Mzansi will then be specially introduced to developing markets.
