Last summer England call-up offered Gomes a level of destruction for difficult decisions already upcoming.
Three days later, he came in a 2–0 win over Ireland in the last September before he made his full debut against Finland in Vambali. Under -21 boss Lee Carsley showed confidence in Gomes’ playmaking capabilities, taking charge of England on an interim basis.
Gomes plays in a situation. It has been found to be difficult to fill England. The lack of deep-losing ball-playing midfielders inspired Gareth Southgate to start the Euro 2024 with Trent Alexander-Aneold-in-Bhoomika by a right-back trade.
“The funny thing is that I think we are (we are building that type of players), a lot,” Gomes says.
The midfielder’s control while playing for England attracted attention. Against Finland, he accumulated 131 touch of the ball – the most – 94% pass of any player on the pitch completes accuracy.
For England at its next beginning, in the Return Nations League stability in Helsinki, Gomes touched 108 on the field during his 79 minutes, successfully completed his 97% pass and assisted the opener for jack gralaish in 3–1 win win.
Nevertheless, Gomes has been forced to struggle with Jibs that his call -up was a result of bias with carcasley, which he worked at the under -21 level.
Gomes says, “It was difficult to listen to people saying that it was a favor because I knew that it was not personally.”
“There was a press conference before the previous euro which was given by Gareth (Southgate) and I was mentioned.
“I remember a pre-call selection for a squad. I felt that it could be a joke so I sent a message to Lee Carsley and he said it was real.
“So I knew that it was not a favor, it was a lot of work for me to go to that point.”
The appointment of Thomas Tochhel has stopped the progress of Gomes internationally.
He is not yet involved in both German squads, but after going to the next summer World Cup, former Chelsea boss has told Gomes that he remains on the radar of England.
“We have talked, we had some video calls and some messages,” Gomes says.
“He is very good in the sense that he is always looking and supporting. It’s a very good relationship in which you can speak at any moment and convey the message.
“I have not yet managed to get into the squad (under the tuchel), but this is something I will try to do.
“The World Cup is aim. Shikhar. This is my objective and I know what should be done to bring me there.”
Five years after leaving the Old Trafford, Gomes is still ready for the second consecutive season in the Champions League – still alive with his dream of playing in the World Cup for England.
