Alesia Russo: ‘Social media can really be harmful during euro’

England Forward Alesia Russo says she prefers to stay away from social media during major tournaments because how “disadvantages” can be misused.

“This is a personal priority and whatever work it works for the team. Staying away from it and focusing as a team works for me.”

Manchester United Midfielder Ella Tone said that when she would still use Instagram during the tournament, she would respect the decision of any team partner who decides to keep social media while living in Switzerland.

“I know that other people turn off their phone. We have that conversation and everyone knows how to go through the tournament,” he said.

“If I see something on Instagram, I am not going to tell anyone or leave the team because they do not want to see it. I think it’s a personal priority.”

After experiencing online misuse as a young player, he and Ruso want to help young players in the squad.

“I think me and Alesia have experienced in the past, we have always been people who want to ensure that small or less experienced players coming to the squad feel relaxed and feel fine,” Tone said.

“We have such talented squads. We have bags of talent coming in their first tournament, so we want to ensure that they are comfortable and feel confident within them.”
