Will a South American team club win the World Cup?

Flemego boss Philip Louis says that a team in South America can win the FIFA Club World Cup after an impressive start for the tournament by Brazil and Argentina clubs.

After Botfogo defeated Champions League winners Paris Saint Germain 1-0, fellow Brazilian side Flamengo UEFA conference came from behind after defeating League winner Chelsea 3–1.

Six teams from South America are participating in the new 32 -Team format – Palmirus, Botfogo, Flemego and Floated from Brazil, while Boca Juniors and River Plates are representing Argentina.

All six are unbeaten after nine matches – Palmirus, Botfogo, Flemego and River Plate tops their respective groups.

No Brazilian team has won the Club World Cup as the Corinthians defeated Chelsea in the final of the 2012 edition.

Since then all the winners have come from Europe.

Meanwhile, no Argentina team has won the tournament as it was established in 2000.

“First of all I wonder South American teams are unbeaten, because I know the quality of European football,” Flemego Boss Louis said after winning his former club Chelsea.

“Anyone can win. It’s football. It won’t surprise me (if a South American team won it).”
