The Department of Basic Education has provided three special school holidays around the public holiday, giving a week off.
Students will be given an additional week of holiday later this month, two weeks after returning to their learning.
According to the Education Department, three additional school holidays were added to the 1994 Public Holiday Act.

Special school holidays
- Tuesday, 29 April 2025
- Wednesday, 30 April 2025
- Friday, 2 May 2025
As Freedom Day Sunday, 27 April, Monday, April 28 will be a public holiday.
As 2025 public school calendarTuesday, April 29 and Wednesday, April 30, special school holidays.
The same week, Labor Day will fall on Thursday, May 1.
Students get another special school leave on Friday 2 May.

- Good Friday: Friday, 18 April 2025
- Family Day: Monday, 21 April 2025
- Independence Day: Sunday, 27 April 2025
- Celebrated Independence Day: Monday, 28 April 2025

- School starts: 15 January 2025;
- School closed: 28 March 2025;
- Public Holiday: New Year’s Day (1 January 2025), Human Rights Day (21 March 2025); And
- School holidays: 29 March to 7 April 2025.
Second period:
- School starts: 8 April 2025;
- School closed: 17 June 2025;
- Public Holiday: Good Friday (18 April 2025), Family Day (21 April 2025), Freedom Day (27 April 2025), Workers Day (1 May 2025), Youth Day (16 June 2025);
- Special School holidays: 29 April to 2 May 2025; And
- School holidays: 18 June to 8 July 2025.
Third period:
- School starts: 22 July 2025;
- School closed: 3 October 2025;
- Public Holiday: National Women’s Day (9 August 2025), Heritage Day (24 September 2025); And
- School holidays: 6 to 10 October 2025.
Fourth term:
- School starts: 13 October 2025;
- School closed: 10 December 2025;
- Administration days: 11 to 12 December 2025; And
- Public Holidays: Dame of Recolration (16 December 2025), Christmas Day (25 December 2025), Day of Goodwill (26 December 2025).
