Great Britain and Ireland defeated the continent of Europe to seal the first Vagliano Trophy win since 2005.
Last September, after the Curtis Cup victory in the United States, GB & I again held their nerve in a biennial match, winning 12 and-111 at the Royal Hague Golf and Country Club in the Netherlands.
Non-Playing Captain Maria Dune, GB and I found myself a heading in a single with Europe, claiming myself two early victories.
However, the GB & I team fought with all scoring victories of Dahi Rhodes, Nelli Ong and Isla McDonald-Obroin before Ireland’s Aine Doengan and another England player, Sophia Fullbrook, which took the GB and I win on a winning line in a remarkable finish to claim the first victory in 20 years.
“It has been an incredible day,” Dunne said.
“I told the team this morning that I felt very good about today. They worked in Folysam, the pace went on our way and they fought the bus. I told them last night, ‘Just keep fighting, keep fighting for every point or half a mark’ and they did it.”
Rhodes, Donagan, Beth Culter, Loti Vod and Hannah Darling were all parts of the team who won the Curtis Cup and all played their role once again.
Wod and Culter lost to the Paula Martin Sampedro and Carolina Lopez-Chakra Cuto respectively, but with ONG’s 6 and 5 wins, things started changing the way of GB & I, and McDonald-O’Brien made a more creative point with another crew point before pulling the visitors to Camil Min-Golteria 2 and 1.
