The Google Message is allegedly testing support for editing RCS chats sent to iPhone from Android smartphone. While the iPhone users could first edit the IMESSAGE chat, and the Google messages allowed to modify the Android-to -android chat, it seems that the ability to edit cross-platform chat is coming soon. However, the iPhone users cannot edit the RCs messages sent to Android users, and may require action from the end of Apple to enable functionality. Cross-platform message encryption is another feature that is expected to come in the future.
Google Message currently provides better user experience for edited chat
A year after Google messages, support for message editing in Android-to-Endroid Chat was added, the company is now Editing RCS messages to some users According to Android Authority report, iPhone was sent to users. However, there are some notable boundaries when editing cross-platform RCS texts through Google messages.
In March, the Universal Profile 3.0 specification finally added support for the two features supported on third party messaging apps for many years: End-to-end encryption (E2E) and message editing. The latter is now available to some Google message users, and according to the publication, is working on messages sent from an Android phone for various iPhone models running on iOS 18.5 and iOS 26 developer beta.
While Google has added support to the latest RCS specifications, edited messages are not properly displayed on an iPhone. Instead of looking at the edited message on the iOS Message app, the user will see the new message after the original message, as well as with a beach.
The new ability to edit messages sent to iPhone from Android phone is gradually rolling users. This can happen because it is being enabled through a server side switch, which means that users may have to wait until functionality is available.
When it is enabled on both platforms, users can expect the same 15-minute message editing window that is available with RCS on IMessage and Google messages. However, when there is no word from Apple on support for message editing and support for E2EE, the message will be added to the message app for better cross-platform RCS chat in both parts of the Universal Profile 3.0 specification.
