From container classes to snakes with broken doors and windows and only five, not completely functional, the toilets stand out.

Parents of learners at Durban Deep Primary School in Johannesburg have expressed concern over the school situation.

They told citizen The government has been promising to build a proper school for many years, but has still not fulfilled its promise.

“Instead of school construction, they keep bringing more containers, and children easily break these things. They are not safe at all”, a parent said.

Another said that the toilet condition was so bad that their child had become ill.

“My child had infection more than once due to these toilets, but nothing has been done after that.”

Snake in sight

The school is located next to a weld, and the snake is seen on its ground. This has worried the parents about whether their child can be bitten.

The father of one of the school children said, “These classes without any door will not protect our children from those snakes.”

Worry about falling on deaf ears

The community is planning a protest at the school to raise awareness about its struggles, but believes that politicians will only listen when they want their support.

A parents said, “Voting time is coming, and these politicians are going to come here and give us vacant promises again. They only pay attention to us when they want votes, but they ever help,” a parent said.

“We are visible on the news of the fight for this. I don’t want to be on TV again; I am tired.”
