The department said that late application would be considered when schools have finalized placements.
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has issued a final reminder to parents and parents to submit late online applications for grade R, 1, and 8 placements for 2026 academic years on Friday, 16 May 2025.
According to WCED, the on-time application period closed on 15 April 2025, but the admission portal has been open for late submission.
So far, 8 603 late applications have been received, a total of 173 872 learners add applications throughout the province.
“We encourage any parents who still need to apply to do so,” WCED said.
“After this date, late application education will be required to be submitted to district offices or schools.”
Late application may be delayed
The department warned that late application would be considered when schools have finalized placements for those applying during the official window.
The statement said, “If additional school locations are required, it helps us make better plans,” emphasizing the importance of early submissions.
Late applicants can withstand limited placement options, depending on the availability of space in schools after initial allocation.

Next stage for applicants on time
Meanwhile, schools are currently reviewing applications submitted by the April deadline, using their own entry policies to assess and rank applications.
“Schools will start offering approval to parents from 30 May 2025,” WCED confirmed.
“Parents will need to confirm their acceptance by 17 June 2025.”
The department urged the parents to keep their contact details up -to -date to avoid remembering the placement offer.
The department said, “Every year, we face challenges with parents who are unrestricted when a proposal is available for their child.”
