The department urged the public to ignore the reports that have changed the school calendar.
The Basic Education Department (DBE) has discontinued false claims spreading online about changes in the 2025 school calendar.
Descend On Monday, the Education Department had released new dates and term brakes for the remaining part of the school year.
“This new school calendar is designed to optimize the duration of learning and ensure adequate comfort, which reflects the department’s commitment to improve educational results in the field,” it said.
It further stated that this decision was to distribute the conditions of the school equally.
However, the department denied claims and assured parents, teachers and students that the current school calendar for 2025 is unchanged.
The department said, “The school calendar has not changed for the academic year 2025,” the department said.

“The department has not made any announcement about the school calendar for 2025! It warned.

- School starts: 15 January 2025;
- School closed: 28 March 2025;
- Public Holiday: New Year’s Day (1 January 2025), Human Rights Day (21 March 2025); And
- School holidays: 29 March to 7 April 2025.
Second period:
- School starts: 8 April 2025;
- School closed: 27 June 2025;
- Public Holiday: Good Friday (18 April 2025), Family Day (21 April 2025), Freedom Day (27 April 2025), Workers Day (1 May 2025), Youth Day (16 June 2025).
