The department vowed to intensify the driver screening efforts but did not offer any timeline for implementation.
Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has admitted that 3 400 scholar transport drivers have not been made against the Child Protection Register (CPR).
It was recently manifested by Mat Matome Chiloane in response to questions presented by Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
Lack of legal compliance
Section 126 (1) of the Children’s Act was cited by DA on Monday by DA. It has been said, “Before a person is allowed to work with children or access to children in an institute that provides welfare services to children (…) The person (…) managing the institution (…) must establish whether the person is considered unsuitable to work with children.”
However, DA claims GDE This law has failed to follow and is changing responsibility for bus owners and private operators.
“GDE has not received any status report for vehicles transporting learners. This is the capacity of the Community Security Department,” Chilon said.

Da demands demand
DA spokesperson for education, Michael Water slammed to handle the department’s case.
Waters said, “MEC should hang their heads in shame to endanger their students’ lives, who are thwarting drivers who have unrestricted access to children from school and from school to children during their daily movement.”
“This failure can lead to incidence of sexual harassment against students and can expose them to unfair materials.”
The party has vowed to report the department to the South African Human Rights Commission. They are calling for a forensic investigation.
The Waters said, “A Da -led Gauteng Provincial Government will enforce the children’s Act, which emphasizes all the persons working with our learners.”
