Educational experts have praised the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for girls for their traumatic education models.
Between many trauma of children outside the classroom, the Opara Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls (Owl) has implemented a wide traumatized program (TIP).

He urged the government to increase the same intervention in the public school system to support students struggling with emotional and psychological adversity.

Classroom who heals
According to the owl’s Executive Director, Gugulathu Nedbele, the tip integrates neurology, psychology and evidence-based practices.

He said, “The learners who are traumatized often struggle to reach their full potential. The implementation of the tip will definitely go a long way. It will reduce the impact of trauma among the learners and set them on a path to make the future for themselves,” he said.
Makaneeta said that the Basic Education Department should adopt a similar strategy. He warned that the country’s high dropout rates cannot be fully addressed without dealing with childhood trauma.
He said, “The traumatic program is necessary not only for the owl, but I think the entire education system should adopt such a progressive program. The scene focuses on ensuring that the program benefits all South African students,” he said.

Comprehensive society
Additionally, an educational specialist, Desmond Leasezen echoed the need for extensive social participation in addressing trauma in schools.
“The response to trauma must be attracted to broad communities in which schools exist and include other stakeholders,” he said that citizen,
These stakeholders include Health Department, Business Community, Religious Leaders and Traditional Leaders.
Leasezen further said that the education department’s psychological support is forced by limited resources.

‘Converting results’
Ndebele emphasized that while owls have seen the “transformative” results – including educational performance and emotional flexibility – the model requires continuous investment. It also requires continuous training to adopt nationwide.
“Our experience in the owl shows that trauma-informed education is not only theoretical. It is a practical, effective approach to change life,” he said.
Call for trauma-sensitive education is amidst constant concern on the effects of violence on mental health of children and poverty.
“Schools should become places that not only teach, but also heal,” Ndebele concluded.
