Mashaba slam tertiary institutions to hire foreign academics

Harman Mashaba says that prioritizing foreign academics on local people reduces immigration laws and spoils young unemployment.

Actiona leader Harman Mashaba has joined the chorus condemning the tertiary institutions appointing foreign academics on local people.

This is a “negligent disregard for immigration control”, which is very suffering among the weak South African people, who bore the porous borders, said about the statement of the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Beauty Manmela, who supported the continuous appointment of foreign academics at SA universities and TVET Coals at the expense of local people.

Mashaba, as the mayor of the city of Jorgberg, opposed the flood of unspecified and illegal immigrants, while he clearly stated that he welcomed those who were legally in the country.

But some ANC members in the municipality and top leaders in the government accused him of being zenophobic.

Mashaba said that over time, the results of immigration control lack have increased, which are accompanied by high levels of employment under danger due to significant competition and foreign dominance in important areas.

“What results we face today: uncontrolled immigration that has created unfair competition for basic services and economic opportunities between South African and many foreign nationals, which should never have been allowed to live in the country before.”

“It is no secret that South Africa suffers from one of the highest unemployment rates in the world. Millions of our citizens, many of them are unable to find work.

“In this context, prioritizing the employment of South African academics within our universities is not only appropriate, but also necessary.

“These institutions have a constitutional and moral obligation for the upliftment of South African people by providing opportunities to contribute to their skills and expertise,” said Mashaba.

Former Higher Education Minister Blade Nazimande continued even after launching a special program to train and promote local black academics, especially black professors.
