More than 1500 teachers appointed in KZN

The Quazulu-Natal Education Department has appointed more than 1 500 new teachers in a concrete effort to promote teaching capacity and ensure that no class is left without qualified teachers.

According to the department, between January and April 2025, it appointed 1 530 post level 1 teacher.

“The purpose of filling these posts is to ensure that there are no classes without a teacher,” said this.

According to education MEC Sipho Hlomuka, many newly filled positions were in high-demand subject areas such as mathematics, mathematical literacy, physics, life science and technical subjects.

The new subjects presented in the course were also allocated to many posts.

“This achievement underlines our commitment to provide quality education to students in the province of Quazulu-Natal,” said Hlomuka.

“Filling these important positions is an important milestone for the department, as it will enable us to improve teacher-to-pupil ratio, increase teaching and learning and eventually improve student results.”

“These posts are empty, such as retirement, deaths, promotion and resignation,” said Hlomuka.

The department concluded that these appointments proceed one step ahead in stabilizing the classroom instructions and continuously ensuring course distribution in schools in the province.
