“It was a good lap, to make sure. I think a little bit, I was able to get more time.”
Lando Noris on Saturday gave a stunning final flying lap to McLaren to eliminate the supremacy of domination in qualifying the red bull ring by claiming the position of the pole for the Austrian Grand Prix of Max Vastapane.
The 25-year-old Britain excluded an excellent lap in a minute and Ferrari’s nearest rival Charles Lakeler in 3.971 seconds, with McLaren Team-Mate and Championship leader Oscrey Piastre Third.
Drivers are 22 points behind Piastry in the title race, which two weeks ago wiped out any hangover with his collision with the exciting performance of his speed and talent in Canada.
‘It was a good lap’
“It was a good lap, sure,” Noris said. “I think a little bit, I was able to get more time. Q1 was good, but I knew that there were some places that I could find more time and I did what I had planned to do.”
Verustapane took the position of a pole in the circuit owned by Red Bull in the Sterian Alps for the last five F1 races, before Noris succeeded and captured his first pole in Austria, his third of the season and 12th of his career.
The team partner Piastry was disappointed and disappointed.
“I had the first corner (Pierre) Galli spin, so I did not even open my second lap. Lando had done all the weekends very quickly, so it would be a tough challenge, but we had the pace of being in the line in front of us.
“We can still have a good race from there and we are not here to come to the third house.”
Vestapane’s last lap was waved by a yellow flag when Galley left in his alpine, leaving her, such as Piastry, like a flying lap time, was unable to see the time. He finished seventh.
Lakeler said: “I am very happy. It is a long time when we have started in the front line and it has been a difficult season overall, but the team has insisted.
“We brought some new parts at the end of this week, which definitely created a difference.
Lakeler’s Ferrari team partner and seven -time champion Lewis Hamilton Mercedes’ George Russell, Liam Lawson of Racing Bulls, four -time champion Verustapane of Red Bull and Gabriel Bortoleo of Saun were fourth.
Italian Ruki Kimi Antonelli was second Mercedes and Galli were ninth in the 10th.
‘Worse than before’
The session began in warm conditions with a temperature of 32 (air) and 48 (track), indicating hard work for tires.
After a frantic closing, in which Russell reached 11th from the drop zone, it was abolished by Aston Martin’s Lance Walking, Has Ki Estaban Okon, Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda of Red Bull, Carlos Sainz in other Williams and Nico Hulkenburg of Saun.
McLaren, under the leadership of Noris, determined the speed.
The entire region was distinguished by less than a second, with Vestapen and Tsunoda, sixth and 18th, only 0.25 seconds. This was the third consecutive Q1 exit of Sainz.
The temperature of the track touched 50 at the beginning of Q2, in which Ferrari carried forward the way used on the used softs, as Noris again dominated his dominance before a trackside grass fire, inspired a red flag stoppage, Hamilton widen there in Turn 10.
Vastapane was unhappy with his car’s response to heat. “No catch, it is worse than before,” he said. “I dont know what to say!”
After six minutes, the action resumed with only four as Noris and Piysthan set the pace in front of Lakeler, while Aston Martin’s two -time champion Fernando Alonso, Williams’ Alex Elbon, Rocking Bulls Ruki Isac Hudzar, Alpine’s Franco Kolapinto and Has -Has Olever Bayerman.
All this was celebrated by Bortolato to improve its first top ten qualifications in fifth place, while Verustapane complained that he was imposed by a Ferrari in a way that was “a little mischievous and super unnecessary”.
As Q3 began, Russell killed almost a Ferrari when he was released on his way, which survived a collision.
On the first run, Noris Piastry was the fastest again from Lakeler with Third and Hamilton Fourth, Ferrari enjoyed the heat as Mercedes drowned before the Noris polls Noris.
