Payment delay for school assistants due to DBE verification issues

‘Unfortunate delay in payment to education and general assistants is due to the procedures being carried out by the Department of Basic Education,’

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has convicted the delay in education and ongoing payment affecting general assistants on administrative problems within the Department of Basic Education (DBE), which is responsible for nationwide payment and processing payment.

In a statement released on Tuesday, GDE said that he wanted to clarify the situation after increasing concerns with the affected youth.

“The unfortunate delay in payment to education and general assistants is due to the procedures being carried out by the Basic Education Department,” said this.

National verification issues

As GDEDBE recently introduced a new centralized payment system for Phase V of the President’s Youth Employment Initiative.

However, the new system is facing difficulties, especially in verification of candidates.

“DBE admitted that his new centralized payment system introduced to Phase V is facing challenges like confirming the candidate ID numbers against the Home Affairs Database Department, matches the details of the correct bank account with the ID numbers and names, and resolve the discrepancies where the candidate does not convert with the application data on the data on the application data.

The DBE allegedly implemented the centralized system to increase accountability and reduce fraud, but the unexpected results have been widely delayed in payment, which affects several candidates across the country, including Gauteng.

Gauteng verification complete

While the Gauteng Education Department confirmed that it has already completed data verification at both school and district levels, many candidates of the province are still without payment due to national level delay.

The department said, “Although Gauteng’s data verification is largely complete and valid at the school and district level, some of our candidates are affected by this delay due to DBE national centralization of the payment process,” the department said.

GDE said it is in touch with DBE and is expected to solve the situation rapidly.

The statement said, “We hope DBE will track rapidly and end their verification procedures to ensure that all youth employed in our schools are paid without any delay.”
