Possible floods: schools warned. citizen

Rainfall is expected throughout the week and the KZN Education Department has issued guidelines to deal with potential floods.

Quazulu-Natal (KZN) Education Department has taken measures to guide schools in the event of floods.

Rainfall is expected in the days after the Easter weekend, and as a precaution, the department has issued flood instructions to schools in the province.

The department said last week that schools had no formal reports of flood or damage, but felt forced to prepare the principal, students and employees.

Possible flood threats

Heavy rains often block access to schools, especially in rural areas, and guidelines exist to help the principals prevent employees and families from being isolated.

The department said, “Any disadvantage for road infrastructure may be unable to make students and teachers their way in schools. This includes delivery of foods required to feed students.”

“Schools and offices should follow specific guidelines in the event of excessive rainfall, air or any other natural disaster that can endanger the lives of students, teachers and officials,” explained.

The guidelines were distributed to all schools and applied to students, teachers, office staff and parents.

“This department cannot take the risk of losing any life due to floods of bridges and destruction of offices or classes,” it said.

Principal instructions

Guidelines emphasize that all sides should leave only their homes or school premises if it is safe to do so.

Principal and circuit managers should lead:

  • Communicate with parents to ensure that they are cognitive about weather conditions before sending children to school in the morning.
  • Principal may advise that students of weather-heat communities live at home if conditions are unfavorable.
  • If The weather gets bad During the day, the principal can keep the students in the school until they are safe to allow them to leave.
  • Principals must immediately log up any damage or events with the department.
  • The department said, “Managers should advise staff members on possible security precautions based on the updated weather report.”

Whether teaching should be interrupted, principals will be tasked with catch-up plans to ensure that students are not academically left behind.
