Sveto school disrupted after the sad death of the student

MEC Chiloane urged the community to allow law enforcement to investigate the case and avoid the tasks that can further disrupt education.

Gauteng Education Mat Matome Chiloane expressed havoc after the death of a student of grade 11.

18 -year -old simphiwe ‘MCEbo’ Biyela, Pimville, was a student at the Musi High School in Soweto.

The disciple was allegedly stabbed by a university at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) while walking home on Tuesday.

The tragedy created disturbance among the students throughout the region, resulting in widespread disruption in schools on Wednesday.

As Gauteng education department (GDE), Learning started again at the Musi High School on Thursday morning.

However, during the third period, anarchy came out again.

GDE said in a statement on Thursday, “Around 150 learners allegedly forced to get out of the school premises.”

“The group allegedly disrupted two other schools in the region before marching at Johannesburg University to protest against the passing of Simpheve.”

The department confirmed that despite the disturbances, all the learners in the affected schools were safe and “course distribution continued accordingly”.

Investigation and support

The police is currently investigating the circumstances around the death of Simpheve. The motive behind stabbing is not clear at this level.

In response to the trauma experienced by the school community, the department has sent psychological support services.

The department said, “Our Psycho-Social Support Team has been posted at the Mussi High School to provide trauma counseling to the affected students, employees and comprehensive school community.”

‘Allow the police to do their work’

MEC Chiloane urged the community to avoid handling law enforcement and interrupting education.

“We express our deep condolences to the learner’s family, friends and the entire community during this painful time,” Chiloni said.

“The department is committed to supporting the school and ensuring safety and welfare of all learners and employees. Learning and teaching will continue normally tomorrow.”

Chilone appealed to local communities to “avoid disrupting school education” and allow the authorities to “address this injustice”.
