Truecaller introduces safe calls to businesses, aims to protect users from online scam

Truecaller on Thursday announced to introduce a new feature, which will help customers to verify their identity by calling. The dubbed secure call, the new feature serves as both a verification tool and a certification badge, which the company claims to be designed to reduce the examples of call spoofing. This feature uses the company’s in-house technology to certify the identity of a valid business on the backnd. At the front end, the receiver sees a safe call badge within the Call ID pop-up of Truecaller.

This feature makes the verified trade platform of Truecaller, which shows the verified collar ID for legitimate businesses. With safe calls, the company’s goal is to verify every outgoing call related to a verified business.

This feature will be mainly useful for businesses that have a large number of vendors and need to call their customers regularly. Typically, bad actors replicate these businesses and carry out fishing scams against unheard individuals.

A safe call is essentially a certification facility that tells users that an upcoming call is coming from a valid business. It is only available to Truecaller for current business customers. When calls involving these commercial accounts make calls, the company confirms the authenticity of the collar to ensure that it is not a model.

Once the validity is established, the receiver will see a golden lock icon with a “safe call” lesson on the pop-up. This will enable individuals to confirm that the call is coming from a business and not a scammer.

“Now the safe call provides call-by-call assurance through an automated signature process. Clear visual indicators within the Truecaller will immediately inform the users that the coming calls are verified as a safe call,” said Fredric Kejel, the chief operational officer of the Truecaller.
