Volkswagen plant Kariga in Eastern Cape Province has entered the next stage in preparation for the production of the third SA-made model.

As Voxwagen The Group Africa (VWGA) continues to prepare the plant for the production of its third South African-made model, the automaker has announced that the Eastern Cape-based assembly facility has entered the commissioning phase for the high-destined entry-level compact crossover/SUV.

The announcement was made after VWGA to complete the upgrade before 2024 (April 14 to May 12) at Plant Kariana, especially in body shops, paint shops and final assembly areas, for the manufacturing line in December 2024, in December 2024.
Notable, with the above upgradation, the production of polo vivo and polo has become normal, while the commission phase is completed over the weekend. The latter stage includes procedures to bring new devices online and complete the check required to ensure that it is better operated.

Along with the above two cars, the upcoming product of the automakers will serve as an opening gambit for the company’s local crossover/SUV portfolio, which currently includes polo-based T-Cross and Tigo, T-ROC, Tiguan and Tourag.
Located under the T-Cross, Tera-like that is named in Brazil, where it is also built-will be officially introduced in 2027. Local level, however, this model will be known as a separate yet unannounced name. VWGA Production Director Ulrich Shwabe said:
“We are happy to come back to normal production, with the knowledge that we are close to a step of our future to create three models in our plant.”
